We spoke Friday of the folly of gun "buybacks." Yesterday, we talked about the folks behind the one in Akron, Summit County Crimestoppers, and how they also employ an anonymous paid snitch program. We've seen how the one stops no crime and the other can actually encourage it--including by the police.

Let's see, they don't like guns, their solutions don't work, but they can get ink in the local paper. So naturally, they have the ear of our community leaders. Narcissistic politicians make sure their names are attached to any publicity. Police are quick to exploit the partnership to bolster their status as "Only Ones." Churches open their doors and give them sanctuary.

And We the People fork over money, whether we want to or not. They get a buck a head on criminal convictions in Summit County. Don't ask me how, don't ask me why--ask our political leaders, who keep coming back to us saying they don't have enough money to do their basic functions, and need to raise our taxes to cover the shortfall.

Forget results. A compliant media presenting them as "successful" is all that's needed. As long as the general perception is that "Crimestoppers" stops crime, the incentive is to be a part of it all. What's that JFK quote? "Victory has a thousand fathers..."

Let's meet some of the fathers. Their Board members and Corporate Sponsors are listed here. Huh. Interesting. I'll need to explore some of those names in a later column, and some of their associations. For now, one sticks out: Park Honda.

Why? Well, their name seems familiar. Why do I think I saw it on the Ohioans for Concealed Carry "Do Not Patronize While Armed" database? Ah, yes, here it is. I'm glad to see the car business in Akron is so good that dealers can afford to tell peaceable armed citizens they're not welcome. It's not like we have our choice of patronizing other dealers who don't make such insulting demands, is it? Oh wait, it is like that...

I do wonder though, if someone decides they just have to buy a car from Park Honda more than they have to have the ability to protect themselves, who is it that will assume responsibility for their safety? I'm still wondering, because I emailed that question to the dealership last Friday and haven't received an answer yet.
