Crystal Palace Baltimore has added 28-year-old veteran Brazilian midfielder Neto to their squad. The Itabuna, Brazil native has trained extensively with the club during the summer, and looks to be one of Palace's key players for the 2010 season.
Neto was drafted by the Dallas Burn of MLS in the fourth round of the 2002 SuperDraft, but was signed by the USL's Syracuse Salty Dogs in 2003. He moved to the Rochester Rhinos in 2004.
Locally, Neto played indoors with the Baltimore Blast from 2005 to 2008, picking up league MVP honors in '05-'06, as well as two championships (2005-06 and 2007-08). During his three seasons with the Blast, Neto tallied 107 points in the regular season, and added 17 more in his playoff appearances. He also had additional indoor spells with the Cleveland Force and the New Jersey Ironmen.
Palace fans can watch Neto and the rest of the squad in a friendly match next Saturday, October 17th, as they take on the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team at Loyola University. Kickoff will be at 10:30 am, and admission is free. The Under-17 squad will use this opportunity as a tune-up for their World Cup run, which starts at the end of October in Nigeria.
