A few months back I reported the Sci Fi Channels impending name change to Syfy. Sci Fi has expressed the idea of turning the channel into a global outlet for creativity spanning the full scope of entertainment media. According to Sci Fi executives, Sci Fi means 'science fiction,' where as Syfy can mean anything from science fiction, to horror or fantasy.
To promote this idea, the Sci fi (Syfy) Channel unveiled its two-minute music video movie, set to Goldfrapp ('Happiness'), and featuring the up-and-coming shows and stars set to catapult Syfy into a new era. The promotional 'movie' entitled, 'House of Imagination,' takes viewers through a house party containing various fantasy-like rooms, alluding to the shows and stars appearing throughout.
Shows like Eureka, Warehouse 13, Ghosthunters and Caprica are featured. But so is the ECW. Yes. The ECW...the show about...wrestling.
Beginning July 7th, visitors to the site (Syfy.com), will have the opportunity to join in on the house party in a fully interactive set-up, featuring 'making of' videos, as well as 'wallpaper' and other downloadable content. The same people who brought you the digital-beautiful of 300 and the Watchmen (Larry Fong and MPC, to name a few) came together to bring you this unique way of saying farewell to a channel that used to represent for the Science Fiction community-at-large, but would now appreciate it if geeks stopped watching their channel and giving them ratings.
