"Bet you never seen Starbuck in lipstick!"

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff will join the cast of 24.  The actress, best known for portraying Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace, will play a Data Analyst named Dana Walsh. The character has a secret past sure to add some intrigue to the already mystery-laden show.Sackhoff will join Freddie Prinze Jr. (Agent Davis Cole), as his possible love interest.

24 is not a science fiction show, no matter what sort of crazy entanglements Jack Bauer can manage to get himself into. However, having Katee Sackhoff added to the cast goes a long way to show that not every actor who makes a name for his/herself in Sci Fi is doomed to typecasting hell.

Another notable appearance in prime time will be Mary McDonnell on The Closer. McDonnell is another Battlestar Galactica alumn who has portrayed an array of characters since BSG had its final bow. Meanwhile, Tricia Helfer has had no trouble getting work playing various characters who are not supermodels, robots or supermodel-robots.

It just goes to show you, being pretty can only get you so far. Being a great actress can get you anywhere. Or, atleast that's how it should be.

24 returns for its eighth season on January 17th, 2010.
