If you've ever read a comic book (or a thousand), then you've probably imagined yourself a Superhero. Maybe you went so far as to think why no one ever went on and did something about it, like say, donning a costume and patrolling the streets. The one thing that brought you back to the ground again was probably the thought that you can't be a Superhero without Superpowers.

I beg to differ.

Batman's been doing it for decades sans super-gifts. He's not the only one. With enough physical prowess; training in the Martial arts and other forms of hand-to-hand combat, one could most certainly defend his/herself against even the sharpest of foes. If you think about it, the average hoodlum can't even make a fist. It's all about weapons unfortunately, which is why Batman has an arsenal.

So maybe you do need some form of invulnerability.

Now say, if you were smart enough to build an armored suit, or a gadget that created a forcefield, then you would be all set. You would be ahead of the most powerful industrial military complexes in the world. But we're talking pipe-dreams of Superhero-dom.

Mark Millar (Wanted) had the same aspirations apparently, which set him on the course to creating Kick-Ass, an ongoing comic book series written by Millar and penciled by John Romita, Jr. Volume 1 is already available as a trade paperback for those so inclined to catch up before the film adaptation comes to theaters.

Kick-Ass (the movie) tells the story of Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson as 'Kick-Ass'), a seemingly ordinary high-schooler who becomes a real life Superhero. He is joined by an entire sub-culture of 'supes', including Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) and Red Mist (Christopher 'McLovin' Mintz-Plasse).

Kick-Ass doesn't hit theaters until April 16th 2010. Till then, you can check out the teaser trailer.
