Today is Thanksgiving; a day for giving thanks and all that good stuff. Some of us take it seriously, while the rest of us just want an excuse to stuff our faces like pigs. On Thanksgiving day no one goes outside to check out the light show. No one’s making sure Frosty’s nose is still on and no one’s hiding eggs, so it’s safe to say, other than the cooks and the cooking, Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday for lazy folks.
At my house we watch movies. Usually HOME ALONE will play and only two people will stay and actually watch it while the rest of us retreat downstairs to either crank call every other person in the house with a cell phone, or…better yet…to watch something better.
This year we’re checking out what ON DEMAND has to offer, as well as blockbuster. The three movies I suggest to get your YAM SCAM off to a good start, just as the turkey’s digesting in your gut and the sweet potato pie is calling your name, are:

(available Oct 07th, on BLU RAY & DVD)
What did M. Night Shyamalan do to deserve such a dissension in the ranks in fandom? Like, seriously. This is the man who brought us UNBREAKABLE. My favorite movie! This is the man who made me yelp, literally, in the theatre watching THE SIXTH SENSE. I love SIGNS…no doubt. Heck, I love the VILLAGE too, and I still don’t get what everyone’s problem is. Shyamalan is a master story teller. Visually, THE HAPPENING is beautiful. It’s something HITCHCOCK would have done were he alive. It’s got all the nuance of a 1960’s chiller and then some. People falling off of buildings, walking backwards, knocking their heads into walls and doing all kinds of crazy that just makes me wanna sit Shyamalan down and ask him what he eats before he goes to bed. Give The HAPPENING another chance. Do it for me.

(available Nov 25th, on BLU RAY & DVD)
Yeah so, I thought this was going to be a movie about a down and out Superhero. Boy was I in for the most lopsided, twisted, contorted view of a demi-god this side of reality. Or does reality even count? This movie had ETERNALS written all over it, but it also had fantastic special effects, a story that was a tad too much but still cool if you’re into comic books and Norse mythology or if you just like to see Will Smith do cool shizz alongside someone hot, like Charlize Theron. I really, truly enjoyed this movie, I just felt that the whole explanation to who and what Hancock is/was needed to be cleaned up a bit. But in sum total, this movie has some memorable moments of awesome and it’ll keep you entertained from start to finish.

And finally, even though this one’s not out for a few days, it bears a mention:
(available Dec 02nd, on 3-disc special edition DVD)
Yeah, I wanted to believe too. I really did. I gave this show nine years of my life. Even when Mulder left, I watched, because Scully was still ten thousand times more awesome than most of the female leads on tv at the time. Plus, Doggett and Reyes were growing on me. Skinner is the love of my life and so long as he was there…not to mention CGB Spender…okay, I’m not getting to my point am I. My point was that if this were not an X-Files movie it would be beyond decent. A solid 8 ½ out of 10 stars. Easy. But since it’s an X-Files movie, I expected more. I expected Chris Carter to still be in love with his masterpiece. But, instead it just ended up being a-okay. And a-okay usually turns into something wonderful when you give it another chance. So give TXF-IW2B another chance and rent it or buy it as soon as it’s out. Seriously. Maybe if it turns in enough dough, Chris Carter will awaken from his coma and do some shizz worth actually spending time and money on.

For those of you looking for something quick and light, might I suggest some memorable episodes of some of the best scifi/fantasy show’s this side of the known universe:
The origin of the “Yam Scam”
So not a Thanksgiving episode, but it’s got the greatest, most awkward dinner scene ever written…
Martha Kent and Lionel Luthor made the world go ‘round. Seriously.

And if you're not the movie watching type and just want to kill time until the bird is done, you can amuse yourself by checking out the new TERMINATOR: SALVATION movie POSTER.

*Don’t forget to give thanks for all the great imaginations behind every great book, movie, tv show, album, comic book or other source of entertainment that makes you happy to be alive.
