It's early August and besides a tropical depression in May,the tropics have had nothing to speak of. A well known hurricane expert Dr. Grey, from Colorado State released his updated forecast today and lowered his predictions by one storm. This is a "El Nino" year, so 15 plus storms are probably not going to occur.

A tropical wave has emerged off the coast of Africa and has been given a less than 30% chance of development between now and Thursday. It will be over 10 days before we will even know if this could be threatening to anyone. Just pay attention to the tropics not just for this particular wave, but for any others since we are approaching the peak of Hurricane Season.

The Weather Service in Ruskin has done some research and found that since 1940, there have been 20 seasons that a storm didn't form until after August 1st and in 10 of those years, a tropical storm or hurricane hit Florida.
