There are several fun, free culinary-related events in Santa Cruz and nearby this week: enjoy!

Vegan Cookbook Reading and Free Samples
A tenth-anniversary edition of bestselling cookbook How It All Vegan!: Irresistible Animal-Free Diet was just published. In honor of this, co-author Sarah Kramer is reading at Bookshop Santa Cruz on Thursday night – and food will be served based on the book’s vegan recipes. Read event and author details.

Free Raclette Cheese Tasting at New Leaf Market
Raclette cheeses first appeared at the end of the 15th century in the high mountain pastures of Southeastern France. The word “raclette” comes from the French verb racler meaning “to scrape.” Traditionally, a half wheel of cheese is mounted and heated on a spit at fireside so that the cheese melts and can be scraped off with a knife. This cheese history lesson and tasting, led by New Leaf’s Food Service Coordinator Nancy Weimer, is Thursday, November 12 from 6-7pm at New Leaf's Westside location (in the Community Classroom). Register online or by phone (831) 466-9060 x126. Location: 1101 Fair Ave., Santa Cruz 95060.

Free Raw Foods Class at Whole Foods
On Sunday, November 15 Whole Foods in Capitola is hosting a free raw foods class from 11am–12:15pm. The class is led by Chef Andi Griffith, a graduate of the Living Light Culinary Arts Institute and author of several books including The Fruits and Greens Diet and Eat Your Way To The Top Of The Class. Chef Andi will demonstrate “easy holiday items” and participants will receive samples and recipes. Sign up at the store’s customer service booth or email Melissa.Cohen@wholefoods.com. Location: 1710 41st Avenue, Capitola 95010.
