When tennis players need new gear, where can they go in Chicago to find it? There are a couple good locations around the city that provide everything a player is looking for and more.
Golfsmith Golf & Tennis (2782 N. Clybourn Ave) is a large retail store equipped with all the tennis gear one could possibly need. They have accessories—bags, grips, racquet string, shoes—as well as expert stringing services and advice on what the pros use. So if one wanted to play like, let’s say Roger Federer, the workers at Golfsmith can tell you which racquet to buy and shoes to wear. (FYI, those would be the Wilson K Six-One Tour 90 racquet and Nike Air Zoom Vapor V shoes.)
Your Advantage Tennis Shop (3719 N Ashland Ave) has the slogan “supplies for the tournament player,” showing they have the brands and equipment to get any player tournament ready. While it is not as large as Golfsmith, Advantage puts an emphasis on racquets and stringing, displaying their expertise in one of the most important parts of any players game. If players are looking to switch racquets or still have not found that perfect fit, Advantage has an excellent demo program with a large selection of frames. Also, their stringing services have been utilized at professional tournaments since 1984, and they are the stringers for the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Northwestern University. It appears they would be the best bet for any broken string.
40 Love Tennis Professional Shop (3843 N California Avenue) located in Irving Park is another shop ideal for equipment, accessories, and apparel. The whole store is dedicated to the sport of tennis, so there is no competition with the golf fanatics.
For something further outside the city, Craig’s Golf and Tennis Source (1107B Maple Ave) in Lisle is the third largest Babolat—one of the most popular tennis products—dealer in the Midwest. Craig’s offers competitive prices on racquets, and also supplies players with quality name brand accessories. Craig’s also provides a demo program and expert stringing services.
Tennis clubs often have pro shops for members to browse through when they are not on the court. And usually, the pro shops are open to anyone interested in picking up equipment or getting a racquet restrung. Midtown Tennis provides clothes, accessories, and demo services. The Lake Forest Club has a large selection of apparel for adults and children, as well as the latest footwear. They also hold sales and trunk shows at their club, and anything can be ordered if they do not have exactly what a player wants. The Oak Brook Racquet & Fitness Club also gives Chicagoans another pro shop location to find anything they need for their tennis game. With the right store and a helpful worker to assist, players can find whatever they need.
