Sure, we may not be in London, where the parties do not seem to stop until that final championship match. But Chicago can party with the best of them, and what better excuse to throw an upscale shindig than one of the most prominent tennis tournaments in the world?

Given that most of the matches are shown during the day, a Wimbledon brunch is a great way to get people together and enjoy the tennis. Many tennis clubs around the city may be throwing parties this coming weekend or next, so if you are a member, check in with your establishment. But for those who are not members and would like to throw their own party, there are some essentials for brunch.

• White linens and plates,
• Traditional English coffee and tea,
• Bangers—British sausage,
Pimm’s—a kind of gin often combined with lemonade and fruit
• Strawberries and cream—of course

Tell all your guests to dress in their best tennis whites (all the players have to do it), and perhaps tell them to bring their racquets in case anyone is up for a game afterwards. Then just sit back, relax, and enjoy quality tennis.

There are other ways to celebrate the tournament around the city. Find any sports bar, pub, or even a nice cocktail bar—if there are televisions--and watch the matches while enjoying delicious local food and drinks. Fion, located on Diversey, is offering the Pimm’s Cup, official drink of Wimbledon, as their cocktail of the week, so stop on by for a drink and a match. The pub English in River North has a brunch featuring Wimbledon favorites, like strawberries and cream, as well as 10 large plasma televisions for customers to view their favorite sports.

Who cares if you can’t party on the grassy knoll of Aorangi Terrace? Celebrate Wimbledon in your own way, with a viewing party and perhaps a friendly match with friends.
