It's been a very busy week for the Phoenix Suns, and all signs and rumors are pointing to the next few being just as busy; even if it's solely headlining the rumor mill each day.
The Suns traded away The Big Nickname, Shaquille O'Neal, to the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to draft night, acquiring Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic in a strictly dollar motivated swap. They also received a 2010 second round draft pick, and $500,000 cash.
If you're like me, you can possibly understand the "business side" of the trade, and for what it's worth, it makes sense as an owner. If you still feel punched in the gut about it, don't worry, you probably should. As a fan, you just want to see your team compete and be enjoyable to watch. You don't bleed orange because you care about Robert Sarver's bank account.
At this point, it's hard to believe they're done with this makeover, so I guess it's wise to hold all judgement and wait to see if the Shaq deal is the start of a bigger picture. We can at least hope it is for now, allowing for better sleep and not stirring at night wondering if Robin Lopez is ready for what lies ahead if not.
On draft night, Suns fans' evening began with a large trade rumor of Amar'e Stoudemire possibly headed within the Pacific Division to the Golden State Warriors for three role players. After Phoenix drafted Earl Clark and Taylor Griffin, it was later found out that the Warriors' seventh overall selection was also to be a part of the deal. That pick ended up being point guard Stephen Curry, and it seems Golden State didn't think he'd be there when they supposedly agreed to make that pick for Phoenix as a part of the deal.
So now we wait. We wait to see if Stoudemire is traded to Golden State. We wait to see if Curry really is "safe" in Oakland like Warriors head coach Don Nelson said he was during the introductory press conference. We wait to see if Amar'e could wind up somewhere else. We wait to see if Ben Wallace agrees on a retirement deal with the front office. We wait to see if Shaq puts another ring on his finger, making Phoenix his only stop without a championship; wouldn't that just be our luck.
After all thats been done, what grade do you give the Suns' front office regime for this roller coaster of a week?
