Just two weeks after signing with the Phoenix Suns, point guard Dee Brown has been released from the team.
His release brings the Suns' roster back down to 12 players, one shy of the league-minimum 13. No immediate transaction was made to fill the vacant spot, but there is nothing leading to believe it won't be another point guard.
Brown appeared in two games during his two weeks with Phoenix. He scored a total of five points, three at Oklahoma City in 13 minutes, and two the next night at Memphis in 15 minutes of court time.
Brown's contract was not guaranteed (though it would've been if he stayed with the team through January 10), allowing the Suns options in case someone else around the league was released or bought out.
That could be the case since the Miami Heat also announced the release of point guard Shaun Livingston, a player the Suns have had their eye on since this summer for his potential.
Before his season-ending left knee injury in 2007 while with the Clippers, Livingston was considered one of the league's top young talents. His first time back in the NBA since his rehabilitation from the injury was spent with the Miami Heat who had him signed to a non-guaranteed minimum contract.
Like Brown's deal with the Suns, Livingston's contract would have become guaranteed at the end of this week if not released by the Heat.
According to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic, the Suns now have a grace period until January 19th before they are required to fill their 13th roster spot to meet the league minimum once again.
