There really is no time better than right now to get in on some really great budget TV on DVD deals. These collections are amazing entertainment value for the dollar and some are available only for a limited time so get them before they vanish.

The Simpsons seasons 1 & 2 limited time Double Pack (Target, $19.99): This show, coming into its third decade, has had its characters become household names.  Without this show, no one would be able to exclaim "Doh!" to impress such poignant frustration, have so many characters  to cite for quirky personality traits, or know how to do the Bartman.  Something must be said for its pop culture references. This is a show that has, at different times, contained all the voices of the Beatles, and according to its creators--enough parodies of Citizen Kane and Godfather I & II to recreate them entirely. Prices of each of the seasons vary but some are available as low as $15.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 1 / Angel Season 1 Double Pack (Walmart, $19.99): This may sound familiar, a teenage girl falls into a forbidden fascination with a tall, pale, and handsome vampire. This love is truly the most taboo because this girl Buffy, as it turns out, happens to be the chosen one, the slayer of all things demonic and evil. Angel is the one vampire Buffy comes across early in her epic career that has managed to regain his soul and has the ability to love. Joss Whedon, the creator and writer of the original Buffy movie, wanted to stand up for the blonde who so typically gets killed in the beginning of scary movies by making her the heroine.  After  time, Angel leaves for Los Angeles to help others from the creatures of the night he feels guilty being a member of. You may want to also pick up seasons 2 & 3 of Buffy in addition since they link the timeline between both series in this set. Empire Online has a top fifty list for the "Greatest TV Shows of All Time" and Buffy the Vampire Slayer placed second behind the Simpsons. Angel placed twenty-first. (Breaking News: "TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time" has episodes from Buffy and Angel in it  as just revealed by Whedonesque.) There are no words to express what a great deal this double pack is. With the recent announcement that original Buffy director Fran Kuzui intends to reboot this series, interest has been piqued and forums are blazing. All seasons of Buffy and Angel are available for $15 from Walmart and some two packs of each of these series may still be available at Target for $20. Still on the fence? Check out full episodes of Buffy & Angel at imdb. Welcome to the Buffyverse!

Arrested Development seasons 1 & 2 limited time Double Pack (Target, $19.99): A clever pre-cursor to the almighty 30 Rock showed that on location thirty minute comedies can be potent comedic material.  This show brought Jason Bateman back into the limelight and launched Michael Cera into better starring roles as well.  These two actors reunited in Juno, and if you thought their relationships in Juno were complicated, wait until you see this.  Also, it has been announced this show is coming back in 2010 as a movie!

The X-Files seasons 1 & 2 Bundle (Walmart, $19.99): FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully made tv a destination on Friday nights when they hit the airwaves in 1993.  A simple part of these characters made the stories so very interesting.  Mulder wants to find proof of the unknown, and Scully rationalizes everything to disprove the supernatural.  This show delved into mythology and these initial episodes are full stories, whereas in later seasons Scully and Mulder get more involved in longer story arcs.

Stargate SG-1 season 1 & The Outer Limits (1995) season 1 bundle (Walmart, $19.99):  Richard-Dean Anderson makes a triumphant return to tv since MacGyver in Stargate SG-1 as the shoot-first-ask-questions-later Colonel Jack O'Neill.  He learns to adapt to the situation at hand and becomes quite crafty and a bit comedic.  This series has had a few spinoffs, but catch it here in the first season where the storylines do not require watching all the previous episodes to properly enjoy and understand them.  Coming soon, Jack is back as lieutenant general for a few episodes this fall in Stargate Universe, a third spin-off series.  The other part of this collection, The Outer Limits season 1, is a science fiction show not unlike the Twilight Zone where each episode is completely unrelated and introduces a different twist on reality.  This can range from jealous android girlfriends to aliens seeking refuge on earth
