Abraham Lincoln was a humble man, born on the rugged Kentucky frontier and raised in a rough log cabin, where he learned to read by candlelight. From his humble origins, Lincoln rose up to the highest office in the United States during one of the most difficult periods in the history of America, the Civil War between the north and south.
