Thanksgiving weekend traditionally kicks off the holiday celebrations, with Black Friday shopping and community Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies. This weekend there are festive community holiday celebrations across Lake County, Illinois. The community events are free to attend and offer delightful holiday fun for the family. On Friday, November 27, 2009 there are tree lighting ceremonies in Antioch, Grayslake, Lake Forest and Libertyville. On Saturday, November 28, 2009 there are tree lighting ceremonies in Lake Villa and Vernon Hills.
Antioch Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting
The Village of Antioch's Annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony starts at 6:30 PM on Friday. After the parade the crowd gathers at the Village Hall for a ceremony and the lighting of the community Christmas Tree. Santa will be available for photo opportunities.
Lake Forest's 26th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
Historic Market Square is set aglow with thousands of twinkling lights. Art Below Zero performs ice sculpting from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Santa visits Market Square from 4:00 PM – 5:30 Pm. The Lake Forest High school Choristers sing at 4:45 PM.
Village of Libertyville Tree Lighting
Holiday Walk after the Village Ceremony. The festive community event is on Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.
Grayslake Tree Lighting Festival
Friday night, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, is a time of festivity in downtown Grayslake. Enjoy the Holiday Market, carolers, Holiday music and carriage rides throughout the evening.

Vernon Hills Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
Mayor Roger Byrne flips the switch to the holiday tree at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Santa will be in attendance at the festive event being held at the Vernon Hills Golf Course at 291 Evergreen Drive in Vernon Hills.
Lake Villa Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony
The annual lighted Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting Ceremony and childrens' party will be at the Lake Villa Train Station from 306 PM. The holiday parade begins at Palaombi School and ends at Lehmann Park, where the Tree Lighting Ceremony is held. After the ceremony, follow Santa to the train station for the Childrens' party.
