1942: Former Red Wings defenseman Ron Harris (1962-64; 1968-72) was born on this day in Verdun, Quebec. Harris played 252 games for Detroit and scored 8 goals and 51 assists for 59 points.

1960: Former Red Wings defenseman Randy Ladouceur (1982-87) was born on this day in Brockville, Ontario. Ladouceur played 290 games for Detroit and scored 14 goals and 67 assists for 81 points.

1965: Former Red Wings defenseman Steve Duchesne (1999-2002) was born on this day in Sept-Iles, Quebec. Duchesne played 197 games for Detroit and scored 19 goals and 65 assists for 84 points. He was a member of the 2002 Stanley Cup team.

1986: The Red Wings acquired Tim Higgins from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Claude Loiselle.
