It has been just a little more than week since the Winter Classic was played at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and the game is still receiving rave reviews and sparking discussions on future venues and games that might benefit from the outdoor atmosphere.

Immediately following the game Brian Rafalski suggested the NHL All-Star game be held outdoors.

There is a possibility that a World Junior Championship tournament game be held out doors in Germany.

Chris Chelios chimed in with his opinion while driving home from the Wings 3-0 win over Columbus on Tuesday night. Chelios had just won his 880th regular season game to surpass Scott Stevens for the most regular season wins by a player, and was apparently listening to the post game show hosted by Jeff Riger on 97.1 The Ticket. Riger asked listeners to call in with their suggestions for where an outdoor game should be played, and Chelios called in, much to Riger’s surprise and suggested an ideal venue would be the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The stadium’s roof can be opened to become an outdoor venue, the weather in Montreal is always accommodating for this type of event and the fans would love it.

Unfortunately, not all the stories and press about this year’s Winter Classic are positive. Jon Yates from the Chicago Tribune wrote an article this week detailing the unfortunate case of a “security guard” walking off with a stick given to 14-year Kalan Plew by Henrik Zetterberg. Click here for the story.

Granted a person who was outside in the cold for three hours watching a hockey game perpetrated this terrible act, it’s hard to believe they could have a heart so cold. Thankfully the Red Wings are going to resolve the situation, but it is terribly unfortunate that there are people like this.
