The Red Wiings celebrate their scoring efficiency (Getty Images)
The day after Christmas I decided to look into Jiri Hudler’s scoring proficiency based on his minutes played.
What I discovered is that he was scoring a point for every 15:30 of ice time, which at the time was the ninth best in the NHL. His teammates Pavel Dastyuk and Marian Hossa were also among the top 25 in the league in a statistic I called “minutes per point.”

Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Ducks I decided to revisit this statistic and calculate the time on ice per point for all the Red Wings players.

Since I last calculated this statistic Hudler’s minutes per point has increased nearly one minute to 16:26, while Datsyuk who has been on a tear recently has improved his minutes per point figure by more than one minute to 16:13.

Below is a table of all the Red Wings this season sorted by minutes per point and position. Chris Chelios and Darren Helm are excluded because they have not registered a point this season.

Legend: Pos – Position; GP – games played; Pts – points; TOI/Pt – time on ice per point; TOI/GP – time on ice per game; PP TOI/GP – powerplay time on ice per game
