1934: Former Red Wings left winger Dennis Olson was born on this day in Kenora, Ontario. Olson played four games for Detroit (1957-58) and did not record a point.
1954: The Red Wings acquired Lorne Davis in exchange for Metro Prystai.
1965: Former Red Wings defenseman Todd Gill was born on this day in Cardinal, Ontario. Gill played 104 games for Detroit (1998-2001) and scored seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points.

NHL
1957: Claude Provost of the Montreal Canadiens scored a goal just four seconds into the second period to set a record for the fastest goal from the start of a period. The record was later equaled by Denis Savard.
