1927: Former Red Wings right winger Metro Prystai was born on this day in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Prystai played 431 games for Detroit (1950-55; 1956-58) and scored 91 goals and 123 assists for 214 points (52nd all-time in Red Wings scoring). Prystai was a member of the 1952 and 1954 Stanley Cup teams.
1944: Former Red Wings defenseman Dwight Carruthers was born on this day in Lashburn, Saskatchewan. Carruthers played one game for Detroit (1965-66) and did not record a point.
1951: Alex Delvecchio scored two goals and an assist, recording his first points in the NHL in a 4-4 tie with the New York Rangers
1973: The Red Wings acquired Ted Harris from Minnesota in exchange for Gary Bergman.

1936: The game between the New York Americans and Toronto Maple Leafs was the first game broadcast on radio coast-to-coast in Canada.
