Valtteri Filppula's broken wrist suffered in Detroit's 6-5 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday means the Red Wings will ice a different roster for the 12th straight game tonight against the Calgary Flames.
In additon to Filppula's absence from the roster Ville Leino will also sit out as a healthy scratch. Leino has just three points in 11 games this season and is minus-2.
Leino scored five goals and nine points in 13 games last season and was being counted upon this season to makeup some of the offense the team lost through free agency over the summer.
"He hasn't played hard enough here so he's going to watch and the other guys are going to play," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.
St. James also spoke to Leino who said the following: "I haven't really been able to play my own game and do the things I want and I guess it's time to do something," Leino said. "I haven't been playing my own game and I just want to get back to that. Maybe sometimes I play too simple, sometimes I try to do too much. I'm not scoring right now, so I just have to try to find my own game again."
With the lineup changes, the lines for Saturday's game are expected to be:
Todd Bertuzzi - Pavel Datsyuk - Tomas Holmstrom
Dan Cleary - Henrik Zetterberg - Jason Williams
Kris Draper - Darren Helm - Patrick Eaves
Brad May - Justin Abdelkader - Kirk Maltby
Along the blueline, Jonathan Ericsson will be a game time decision due to illness and if he is unable to play Derek Meech will take his place in the lineup.
Chris Osgood will get the start in goal.
