Which current Detroit Red Wing could be the only player to take part in all three NHL outdoor games?
Answer below.
Over the past few days the NHL has posted a few videos on their website about the Winter Classic.
NHL Vice President of Communication Jamey Horan released some details about the configuration of Wrigley Field and the position of the ice surface in relation to the seats as well as an artist’s rendition of the stadium.
Here are a couple of advertisements for the game that should fuel your anticipation for the big New Year’s Day Event.
Now if you watched the clips closely you would have seen the current Red Wing who could make history by being the only player to play in all three outdoor games.
Georges Laraque has played in the previous two games as a member of the Edmonton Oilers in the Heritage Classic in Edmonton in 2003 and as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins last season in the game in Buffalo on New Year’s Day.
Brian Campbell of the Chicago Blackhawks was a member of the Buffalo Sabres last season and, barring injury, will play in his second outdoor game.
Answer: Ty Conklin was the goalie for the Edmonton Oilers in 2003 and the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. As a member of the Detroit Red Wings he has the opportunity to be the only player to dress in all three games.
And another factoid, Conklin is 1-1 and the visiting team has won the previous two outdoor games.
