The Detroit Red Wings are in the midst of a three-game road trip through the NHL’s equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle.
Traditionally a road trip through Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, has not been kind to NHL opponents. Since the 1995-96 season playing these three teams in sequence on the road the league is 285-356-88 for a winning percentage of .450. The Wings are 17-23-5, a winning percentage of .433 over the same time period.
So far on this trip, the Wings have gotten off to a good start with a 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Thursday night. Jiri Hudler led the way offensively with a pair of goals including the game winner.
Also scoring were Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Kopecky. They face Calgary on Saturday night, and wrap up the trip with a game in Vancouver on Monday.
Coincidentally, last year Hudler was the hero in the first game of the three game trip potting a beautiful game winner against Vancouver, setting the stage for Detroit to sweep the three game trip.
