The Detroit Red Wings dominated the Edmonton Oilers from start to finish in a 4-0 victory at Joe Louis on Monday night.

Ty Conklin, in his first start at Joe Louis Arena, turned aside 21 shots to earn his first shutout as a Red Wing, and Jiri Hudler and Niklas Kronwall had a goal and an assist each to pace the offense. It was Conklin’s fifth career shutout and he improves his record this season to 5-1-0.

“A little bit more butterflies I guess than on the road, but we played a lot of time in the other teams end and that bodes well for us,” Conklin admitted following the game, whose wife gave birth to their third child this week, a boy named Nash. “Third baby you know it’s kind of old hat now a days, it’s a good first win for him.”

Johan Franzen continues to have a hot hand scoring his fourth goal in as many games since returning from injury, and now has nine goals this season. “I like streaks, and the longer you can stay on them the better,” said Franzen of his recent tear. “One day it’s over so you have to work hard every night.”

Mikael Samuelsson scored the other Detroit goal.

The Wings outshot the Oilers 41-21 overall on the night, and held a 12-1 shot advantage 10 minutes into the game, and allowed just three through final 10 minutes of the third.
In addition to a nearly flawless effort the 18,934 in attendance were treated to another Darren McCarty fight in the first period as he easily handled Zach Stortini. Oilers winger Fernando Pisani suffered a broken ankle in the third period and will be out least one month, and likely closer to two after he went feet first into the end boards.

Tomas Holmstrom is one point shy of 400 in his career, and Pavel Datsyuk is two assists shy of 300, and Franzen is just 4 points shy of 100.
