Jamming fun for young and old in Squaw Valley
How often have you stood in front of the TV or stereo and played "air guitar", or sat in the audience at a concert and silently mouthed the lyrics to a song, imagining that you were singing in front of others? There's no need to be shy; You too, can shine as a singer and/or musician at a bluegrass jam! These are friendly, informal gatherings that may spring up wherever there are a handful of folks who enjoy making music in a relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere. Usually the "pickers", as they are called, sit in a circle and take turns, with each person getting to choose a song when their turn comes around. You'll find your fellow musicians to be encouraging and supportive. If you are a more accomplished musician, your talents will be greatly appreciated by those in attendance, and your presence may be an inspiration to up-and-coming pickers.
There are several jams that take place on a regular basis in Fresno County. One will happen tomorrow night (Saturday, June 27) in the activity room of the Bear Mountain Library, located at 30733 East Kings Canyon Road (Highway 180) in Squaw Valley. This jam is a potluck, so if you are coming, please bring a dish to share. Coffee is provided. (No alcoholic beverages, please, per library rules.) Musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome, as are listeners. If you've imagined playing in front of others but were too shy or unsure of your abilities, the Bear Mountain Library jam is a great place to start.
