What do you think of when you hear the words "online gamer"? Okay, now forget the picture in your head and replace it with Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). A real-life online gamer, Day has taken her online activities and turned it into a hit web sensation! Penned by Day, who also stars as the show's lead character Cyd "Codex" Sherman, The Guild will be heading into its third season on Tuesday, August 25 and is currently taking the streaming video world by storm with a brand new music video, "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?"
If you happen to find yourself with a few spare minutes, take the time to go to YouTube or watchtheguild.com to check this hilarious web comedy. The Guild follows a group of online gamers as they interact both in and out of the role playing game that takes over most of their day to day lives. Heading up The Guild's cast alongside Day are Jeff Lewis as the penny pinching, over-controlling Vork, Sandeep Parikh as the Codex-obsessed Zaboo, Amy Okuda as the attitude-y Tinkerballa, Robin Thorsen as the neglecting mother Clara, and Vincent Caso as the teenaged Bladezz. The webisodes, each less than ten minutes in length, follow the guild members in their quests for social interaction, primarily focusing on Zaboo's infatuation for Codex.
Day has created a real gem in The Guild, which she originally intended as a sitcom pilot, but has done just fine in the web t.v. show market, raking in three Streamy Awards this year including Best Comedey Web Series, Best Ensemble Cast in a Web Series, and Best Female Actor in a Comedy Web Series for Day. The Guild is clever, silly, and just downright enjoyable whether you happen to be a fellow geek or someone who is unfamiliar with RPG (that's Role Playing Game for you noobs) lingo. Day has also recently teamed up with mastermind Joss Whedon's brother Jed to create a video that has reached number one on both iTunes and Amazon. "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?" combines the brilliance of the show with a catchy song that is guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days. If you find yourself absolutely loving this show as many have, you can purchase both Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD at Amazon.com. At least head over to YouTube to check out the cast's number one video!
