Artists’ generosity shines at this weekend’s Open Studios
The Alameda Artworks hosts their first annual Holiday Open Studios November 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than thirty artists will participate in this event.
More than an art show, the Alameda Artworks Open Studios is also a fundraiser for Sacred Heart Community Service. Artists will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of their art to help feed and clothe needy children and adults in Santa Clara County. Sacred Heart provides food for four thousand families’ Thanksgiving dinners, over three thousand families’ Christmas dinners, and enough toys for five thousand children. More need exists this year than ever before.
Lori Krein, a collage artist who maintains a studio at the Alameda Artworks, commented on the opportunity to help those in need. “Knowing that a portion of my sales will go to such a good cause increases my motivation to work harder than ever in both creating more art and getting the word out about this event. During these difficult times, I am grateful to be able to pursue my passion, but so many people are struggling that it’s important to help in any way we can. I have lots of miniature, eco-
friendly assemblages which are reasonably priced and make great gifts. Sacred Heart Community Service helps so many people. I am honored to be associated with them.” Read a profile of Lori Krein, and find out more about her new show on Channel 15.
On a similar note, painter and Alameda studio artist Donald Bruce Wright added, “Sacred Heart was chosen as the beneficiary because of their fine reputation and leading role in fighting poverty in Santa Clara County. We hope to raise awareness that Sacred Heart always needs extra volunteers to help during the holiday season.” Some of Don’s more recent paintings will be on display at the Open House, and he looks forward to meeting people at the event. The Alameda Artworks, formerly a municipal auditorium and roller-skating rink (the hardwood floor still shows the marks from skates) is now a group of artist studios, one of the largest in the South Bay. The artists of Alameda Artworks work in a wide variety of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, textiles, mixed media and collage, music, and jewelry. A reception with the artists is scheduled for Saturday, November 7 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
