Like a fogged-up car windshield that’s receiving a nice blast of warm defrost from powerful fans below, the postseason picture is beginning to come into view for local hoops teams.

Within days we will know what the road to the NCAA Tournament looks like.  Here’s a sneak peak:

There’s still plenty of basketball to be played in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the Eagles among a logjam of teams still vying for a first-round bye in the tournament, awarded to the top four teams.

Should BC win its final two games at N.C. State and at home against Georgia Tech – not a stretch by any means – it gets one of the byes if the following occurs:

-         Florida State loses just one of its last three (Clemson, at Duke, Virginia Tech).

       AND

-         Clemson OR Wake Forest loses two of their final three games. Since those teams meet in the regular season finale, one of them will have at least one loss. The Tigers also visit Florida State and host Virginia while Wake has to travel to Virginia and Maryland, which is never an easy place to walk away from.

Simply put, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for the Eagles, picked to finish near the bottom of the ACC, to be watching from the stands when the tournament opens March 12.

If BC fans really want to dream, there is still a chance – if North Carolina loses out and Duke drops its next two before visiting Chapel Hill – for the Eagles to win the ACC regular season crown.

Was that a pig that just flew past my window?

What we know for sure is that the Huskies will play March 7 in the quarterfinal round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. The opponent will be determined Saturday when all 12 CAA teams are in action.

The good news for Northeastern as it prepares to host Old Dominion is that Bill Coen’s team owns every significant tiebreaker and with a win Saturday can do no worse than a No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Here’s the breakdown:

-         The Huskies earn the top seed with a win over the Monarchs and a loss by first-place Virginia Commonwealth (at home against Georgia State). NU and VCU would finish in a tie at 13-5, but the Huskies would win the tiebreaker by virtue of defeating VCU in the only meeting between the teams. George Mason can also finish 13-5 but it lost to the Rams and therefore would finish third.

-         Northeastern is No. 2 if the top three teams all win and the Huskies and Patriots are a game behind VCU. Again, the Huskies beat out George Mason by virtue of a win over the Rams.

-         With a loss to Old Dominion, Northeastern still finishes second if George Mason loses. If the Patriots win and the Huskies lose, Northeastern is third, winning a tiebreaker for that spot with the Monarchs.

With a 76-65 win over Maine on Thursday the Terriers clinched the No. 3 seed in the America East tournament, which begins next Friday. BU’s opponent will be determined Sunday, with either New Hampshire, Albany or UMBC emerging as the No. 6 seed.

If the Wildcats (vs. Stony Brook) and Retrievers (vs. Albany) hold court at home, the Terriers will play UMBC in a quarterfinal contest March 7 at 2:30 p.m.

BU swept New Hampshire and UMBC and split with Albany, losing by a point to the Danes in a road game in which the Terriers were without Corey Lowe, who sat with a suspension.
