First of all, I would just like to point out that I was 4/4 in my NFL playoff picks from last week (Arizona, San Diego, Baltimore and Philadelphia)
The ESPN.com fantasy sports writers have been filling out this survey, so I thought it would be fun to do my own version of what they put out. This is the baseball version, just a friendly reminder that pitchers and catchers report Feb, 14.
Your name:
Andrew Greenberg
But you wish to be referred to as:
Andy
You're a shameless, unabashed fan of:
Terry Francona and Theo Epstein
But we shouldn't hold it against you because:
Francona went to U of A, and despite the fact that I hate their team and their stupid bandwagon fans, both Francona and Epstein were so kind to me when I was press at Safeco field last summer, both of those guys are real class acts.
Your fondest sports wish for 2009 is:
That Steve Sarkesian leads UW to a winning record and/or a bowl game
Why will this happen/not happen?
Has a winless college football team ever made that big of a turnaround?
Any sport, what is your biggest sleeper pick for 2009?
Mike Aviles, SS, Kansas City Royals
How high would you reach for that sleeper in a standard fantasy draft?
Probably the 7th or 8th round, knowing the people I play fantasy baseball with
Which player are you buying into but will most likely disappoint you?
Franklyn Gutierrez, I’m trying to trust Jackie Z, but I really don’t think he got the right player to roam center field at Safeco
Which player are you not buying but will likely disappoint everyone else?
Josh Hamilton, only because I don’t think he’ll be able to put up nearly the same numbers as he did in 2008. He’ll still be great, just not as great as everyone expects.
Any sport, who will be the best rookie to emerge in 2009?
Blake Griffin looks like an NBA star already. I’m also keeping an eye on Ben Revere as he makes his way through the Minnesota Twins’ farm system.
... but everyone is going to think it's going to be?
Tyler Hansbrough. I know a draft bust when I see one (I called it with Brady Quinn) and he does not look like he has legitimate NBA potential.
Who will be …
… the first player drafted in fantasy baseball leagues? People still can’t turn down A-Rod, but it should be Hanley Ramirez
… the first pitcher? Johan Santana will be drafted ahead of Tim Lincecum, a mistake that will be made all over fantasy baseball leagues
… the first rookie? Travis Snider or Matt Weiters, both legitimate fantasy starters
… the player who'll start the season in Triple-A to everyone's frustration? Chase Utley while he rehabs his hip
Mad Gabs
Fill in the blanks any which way you want to create 9 more predictions for 2009.
1. In 2009, Seneca Wallace will start more games for the Seahawks than Matt Hasselbeck
2. There is no way that Manny Ramirez will be paid what he’s asking for
3. The Detroit Lions will be this year's Detroit Lions…again
4. Brett Favre will go through the same ordeal he did last summer and sign with a different team for the 2009 season, only to have the worst season of his career
5. If the Seahawks draft Michael Crabtree then they will miss the playoffs again
6. There will be one player(s) that hits 45 home runs (Ryan Howard)
7. ... but zero Seattle Mariners players that will hit 30 homers
8. This is the year that the Red Sox finally miss the playoffs
9. 2009 will forever be remembered as the year Ken Griffey, Jr. returned to the Mariners
The Name Game
A-Rod or Hanley Ramirez? Hanley, he’s a younger version of the future Hall of Fame slugger
Tim Lincecum or Johan Santana? Lince, he’s got another Cy Young waiting for him
Evan Longoria or Garrett Atkins? Longoria, but a spot on the All-Star team for each of them
Chase Utley or Dustin Pedroia? Utley once he’s healed, best 2B in the game
Manny Ramirez or Mark Teixeira? Teixeira. Manny will be unhappy wherever he goes because they won’t be paying him enough money
Playing with Numbers
Francisco Rodriguez saves: 42

What question do you wish you had been asked on this survey?
Which city will be this year’s Seattle?
And the answer is?
There is no answer, no city could have it as bad as Seattle did in 2008
What question are you glad you weren't asked?
What was the biggest travesty of 2008?
Sucker! Now you have to answer.
The Sonics moving away, and I don’t want to talk about it any more
