The NFL Playoffs are upon us, which means it’s time for predictions. I’ll also give you, the Seahawks fan, a reason to cheer for each team.
Falcons at Cardinals: The rookie coach/rookie QB phenomenon along with Michael Turner have propelled Atlanta past their Vick debacle and back into the postseason, while the Edgar Martinez of the NFL, Kurt Warner just won’t give up and even has a shot at this year’s MVP honors. I’m taking the Cards in a close one, but just because they’re at home.
The Seattle fan should root for: Atlanta if you really really hate the Cardinals. Arizona if you’re like me and just can’t get over how awesome their offensive skill players are, and it shows wonderful sportsmanship to cheer on your division representative.
Colts at Chargers: Both teams are red hot and will clash in San Diego on Saturday night. Peyton Manning is no stranger to the playoffs, but neither are Phillip Rivers and LaDanian Tomlinson. This is definitely the game of the week when it comes to exciting match ups and teams that have turned around their season from the early going. The Bolts were able to win at Indy last year, and I see them coming out with another victory.
The Seattle fan should root for: San Diego. They’re the only West Coast team in the postseason. I also like to see new champions, and the Colts won Super Bowl XLI. However, if you’re still bitter from when the Chargers were division rivals, then by all means, choose the Colts.
Ravens at Dolphins: Another match up of two fantastic stories from the 2008 season. The Ravens are another team with a rookie coach and QB and the Dolphins are somewhat similar with their rookie coach and new QB. With the first pick in the ’08 draft and the following rounds, the Dolphins shored up their lines, taking two on each side of the ball with four of their first five picks including standouts Jake Long (OL) and Phillip Merling (DL.) When it comes to the winner, I’ve got to go for Miami, they’ve come so far and even beat the Ravens last season to finish 1-15.
The Seattle fan should root for: Baltimore. Dan Marino and the Dolphins beat the Seahawks in the first round of the 1999 playoffs in Mike Holmgren’s first year, so it’s only fitting that they lose in his last right?
Eagles at Vikings: A game of epic proportions. The Eagles bring their high powered offense with a resurgent Donovan McNabb to the Metrodome to take on Adrian Peterson and the Vikings. Minnesota plans on starting Tavaris Jackson over Gus Frerotte, but that could really be the wrong decision. Gus had the Vikings reins for almost the entire season and really knows their offense better than Jackson. Expect a likely QB switch that could throw off the course of the Viking offense. I’m taking the Eagles for the victory and a date with the division rival New York Giants.
The Seattle fan should root for: Anybody. This one is pretty much up in the air, but the Eagles beat the Hawks this year, so if you’re still a little angry from that game, take the Vikings.
