Bruce Hornsby will be premiering music off of his forthcoming album Levitate during the series premiere of Jay Leno's new primetime variety show on September 17th, two days after the CD's scheduled release date. The album will be his first collection of original tunes since 2004's Halcyon Days, where Hornsby first collaborated with guitarist Clapton.
The tune "Space Is The Place" was actually recorded during the sessions for Halcyon Days, but didn't wind up on the final track listing. According to Hornsby, it was during the recording of this number that Clapton really let it rip, and did some amazing fretwork, which members of Leno's studio audience will get to witness for themselves. The album track also features a rap cameo from Hornsby's son, Russell.
The album's title track (along with other Hornsby tunes) will feature in the upcoming movie "World's Greatest Dad" starring Robin Williams, where Hornsby will be have a bit part playing himself. The soundtrack should include a bluegrass version of Hornsby's 1986 hit "Mandolin Rain", which Hornsby performs in the film. "World's Greatest Dad" was directed by actor and stand-up comedian Bob Goldthwait. Hornsby will kick off the Levitate tour in his home state of Virginia, with his back-up band The Noisemakers.
