After losing to Binghamton the last week of the regular season 4-0, a staunch defensive effort and a late goal by Levi Houapeu gave the Retrievers a 2-1 win.
UMBC soccer will play New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Houapeu has been red-hot the past several weeks, and has has caught up with leading scorer Andrew Bulls, who hasn't scored with the same frequency against conference opponents compared to non-conference foes. Both are now tied with 15 goals a piece.
In their last meeting with the Wildcats, the Retrievers lost 2-0 at UMBC Soccer Stadium. New Hampshire (9-6-2, 6-0-1) is the top seed in the America East Conference tournament.
