"Twilight Saga: New Moon" made its impact during its midnight showings on Friday morning before its full official day of business and as expected, took a bite into the box office for biggest midnight opening ever with a whopping $26.3 million--shattering the record of this past summer's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" of $22.2 million.
Now that the film is now in high gear, its first day of business has yet to be released, but with its midnight premiere now in the books, the box office record in its sights now is the one day total of last year's Batman sequel, "The Dark Knight" which earned $67.2 million.
So far, "New Moon" pretty much will outperform the its first installment "Twilight" as it grossed $36 million during its first day of business.
Once the numbers are tallied for Friday, there will be an update on the report.
(correction: I originally reported that "Twilight" grossed $36 million in 2-days, which was an error. I meant to report that as a 1-day opening.)
