According to a report by Cynthia Littleton of Variety on Thursday, Hollywood maestro Steven Spielberg and novelist Stephen King are collaborating to develop a limited series based on King's recently released supernatural thriller, "Under the Dome".
DreamWorks TV has optioned the book as an event series that may be for cable television, though it remains unconfirmed at the moment. The book has earned positive reviews and seems to have marked King back to form.
The story revolves around a small town in Maine in which its blanketed by a small force field, while the town locals fight to survive and is plunged in to warring factions led by an assortment of characters.
DreamWorks is scheduling meetings with writers for the project. The plan is to have a writer in place before shopping the project to prospective buyers.
Spielberg and King have worked together once before, developing a screen adaptation of King's 1984 novel "The Talisman" in which Spielberg has held the option on for nearly 20 years. It had been developed into a feature, but was shelved due to budget reasons.
There has been no word as to when "Under the Dome" will begin production.
