The first $44 billion of Obama's stimulus funding for education will be distributed to school districts within 30-45 days, according to the US Department of Education. $49 billon more will be available to schools within six months.

“This money will help avert hundreds of thousands of estimated teacher layoffs in schools and school districts while driving crucial education improvements, reforms, and results for students,” stated the government website.

"Strict reporting requirements will ensure that Americans know exactly how their money is being spent and how their schools are being improved," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Additional details, including a category-by-category list of all stimulus funds appropriated to the Department of Education, are posted at www.ed.gov/recovery. This website also lists requirements and plans for distribution of the funds.

President Obama is moving at lightning speed! I just pray that his energy and optimism translates into positive results and successes, especially for our schools. However, I certainly have my doubts, especially when it comes to the government spending more of my tax dollars so quickly.
