Unemployment of teenagers ages 16 to 19 hit a quarter-century high of 24% in June, according to the the Wall Street Journal.

Part of the reason is that the recession has pulled adults in to jobs typically held by teens.

In turn, when better-educated teens get the jobs at retailers or fast-food outlets, they force out the  lower-income teens who usually work those jobs.

At the same time, parents are relying on kids' part-time jobs to help pay for college, due to layoffs and stock-market losses.

Parents and students hope that all of this college pays off, but many college graduates are having a hard time finding work. See Unemployed college grad sues for tuition refund.

What a crazy and vicious circle! The only answer is to work your hardest and rise above the competition.
