Forgive me for my excitement, but it’s not every day that an author is published in “Chicken Soup’s 101 Best Stories.”

It all started a few years ago, when I wrote a story called “Ruby’s Roses.” It was about a great life lesson that my mother taught me in the middle of an adolescent neighborhood crises.

“Ruby’s Roses” was first published in the best seller “Chicken Soup for the Gardener’s Soul” alongside stories by famous authors such as Nelson Mandela, Erma Bombeck and James Michener.

The current edition of “Chicken Soup’s 101 Best Stories” is called “On Being a Parent: Inspirational, Humorous, and Heartwarming Stories about Parenthood.”

I also authored an educational children’s book called From Desert to Detroit.”  This book is about a young girl who moves from Iraq to Detroit to find out that big city America has problems, too.
