"And why take ye thought for raiment?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin"

With each evolving phase of humankind something becomes obsolete, outgrows it's usefulness or necessity.  Quite often we resist  the winds of change believing our identity and security are found in those things which are familiar.  We behave as if our safety and protection is guaranteed by the manipulation of circumstances and conditions that maintain the status quo.

Civilization does not survive by standing still,by putting on the brakes, as if that were possible.  Before there were automobiles there was the horse and buggy, how would you like to travel that way now?  Before there were washing machines, there was the tub and washboard, sounds fun right?  Before there was equal opportunity for women and minorities there was ignorance and exclusion.   Now some may long for those days for reasons that benefit only them, yet this is a Universe of infinite peoples, cultures, and experiences, that the Creator provided freely to all.

Currently may of us are living lives in which we are unhappy and dissatisfied with the pattern of our everyday existence.  We are working 9 to 5, in a job that leaves us not only bored but hopeless that this is all there is.  On top of all of this, many of us can barely pay our bills, and most often there is little or no time for the things we love, family ,friends, the smelling of some roses.

In the above quote from the Bible, Mathew 6:28, Jesus instructs us not to toil (work) or worry (spin) about those things which most consume our days.  Jesus says "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you."  A Course in Miracles says "The Kingdom of Heaven is  you.  And yet all day everyday we give our power away to a boss, a corporation, a reputation or a standard of living.  We tick away the hours and minutes of our lives in a place, with people we would rather not, and then wonder why we are unhappy and unfulfilled.

There are no victims here, we all agree to participate in this dance,to allow life to be defined by structures that may be well past their prime.  In order to derive the promise of the words of Jesus it may we require that we begin to evolve toward a new vision of the way we want and deserve our lives to be.  After all, we do have the power, what if you did not show up for work tomorrow?  Oh sure someone else would quickly fill your place(not really), but what if all of us working a j-o-b did not show up, would things run the same, who might have the power then?  Of course there are those pesky little bills to pay,and yes we need things.. money,so we're told, but once again, who decided this game?

By the way no one is advocating we all run out quit our jobs and stop paying our bills.  But perhaps as some hardy souls have found, very often successful people, there is another approach to life. These  people start their own businesses, or find a purpose in assisting others less fortunate,or discover and invent things to improve the quality of life for everyone, maybe even uncover a hidden talent.  All too often we accept the basis of reality as," this is the way it has always been", and believe sanity is maintained by not questioning our assumptions or beliefs.

In the article to follow there will be a few ideas and suggestions for finding a way to not only think outside the box, but to transcend the box.
