Lance Armstrong won the Leadville 100 well ahead of the rest of the field, Saturday.  David Weins, the six-time winner and defending champion, came in second by almost a half hour.

The race began under freezing rain, which was a great motivator for the racers to push hard.  Lance broke away from the pack early on and did over 60 miles of the race by himself.  With about 10 miles to go, Lance noticed a leaky tire.  Rather than fixing the flat, he simply added more air and continued the race.  He crossed the finish line with a flat tire, which causes minimal control of the bike.

At the age of 44, Dave Weins may not intend to compete for a top spot in next year's Leadville 100.  Lance Armstrong fully intends to return in 2010 to defend his title.

Rebecca Rusch, of Sun Valley, Idaho, won the women's race in her Leadville 100 debut.  Riding for the Redbull-Specialized team, she completed the race in about eight hours and 15 minutes.
