Vogue 2009: Dench, Cotillard, Hudson, Ferguson, Kidman, Cruz and Loren talking about their new musical 'Nine'

The musical film Nine, who stars Academy-Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot; There Will be Blood) as its lead, will be released on November 25th of this year, and Vogue has a very glamorous photos hoot with its female stars.

The film if filled with other Academy-Award winners including Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose), Penélope Cruz (Vicky Christina Barcelona), Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love), Sophia Loren (Two Women), and Golden-Globe winner Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) and Grammy-Award winner Stacey Ferguson (Fergie).

It’s easy to forget that the youngest cast-members and smallest roles are those pertaining to Fergie and Kate Hudson. Most of the shots, and emphasis, alongside Cruz and Kidman, seems on the two new-found friends.

While on the Vogue shoot, the interviewer speaks with some of the women.

Telling Kidman it’s hard to believe she had her baby, Sunday Rose, only six months ago, she exclaims "My baby gives me energy. I don't feel tired.”

Nicole then turns to Kate "Kate should be on Broadway. She should be the lead." Kate's eyes sparkle with excitement when she talks about her number "Cinema Italiano," which was written especially for her by Yeston. "I spent most of my childhood singing and dancing and just never had the chance to do it professionally. So when I got the chance to work with Rob, I was so excited, I was out of my mind."

Hudson then says that rehearsals felt like "being at summer camp," although she adds, "I don't think there is any actress who looks forward to missing those days with her kids. But at the same time there is no one who wants to stop acting." Nicole admits, "I had no desire to work after I had my daughter, but to lure me back, this movie was the only way."

Penélope also plans to work less in the future. She says that she is so often cast in tortured-female parts that she needs to put in more and more energy and time to play them. "Luckily I don't have to identify with my roles, because if I did I would be dead by now!" she says with a laugh. "I've been working since the age of seventeen, and I really haven't stopped. I want to balance it a little more. Instead of making three or four movies a year, I will do one."

Still, it isn't as though the girls haven't had fun. Penélope loved living in the same apartment building as Kate and Fergie. "I've had some very long dinners with Kate, because she loves eating," she says. "I mean four-hour dinners. We are exercising so much we don't feel guilty at all." Fergie then walks over and adds that because she had to gain weight for her part, she stopped working out and "started eating crap. I ate everything fried."

The Geffen Records soundtrack will be released in November of this year.

Nine:
Having reached the age of forty, director Guido Contini (Day-Lewis) is facing a midlife crisis that is stifling his creativity and leading him into a variety of complicated romantic involvements. As he struggles to complete his latest film, he is forced to balance the numerous formative women in his life, including his wife Luisa (Cotillard), his mistress Carla (Cruz), his film star muse Claudia (Kidman), his confidant and costume designer Liliane ( Dench), an American fashion journalist (Hudson), the prostitute from his youth (Ferguson) and his mother (Loren).
