Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer has been named a semi-finalist for the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award, while head coach Kirk Ferentz is a semi-finalist for George Munger College Coach of the Year Award.
The Bednarik Award is given to the nation's top defensive player, which as any Iowa fan will attest, Mr. Angerer is undoubtedly that. His team-leading 89 tackles come with an interception, and his name already graces the CBS mid-season All-American team.
In addition to that, the dude's best friend is his brother's dog and he fosters ambitions of one day garnering fame as a champion fighter in the MMA. In other words, give Mr. Angerer the award already.
Should Ferentz indeed receive the prestigious coach of the year award, the trophy won't suffer any melancholy on account of loneliness while sitting on his office shelf. He won the award in 2002 after leading the Hawkeyes to an 11-2 record and the school's first BCS game, where Iowa played USC in the first half of the Orange Bowl.
