I recently did a Google search of myself and realized that I am hard to find.  That can be a blessing and a curse.   From a job search standpoint you should assume that every potential employer is Goggling their top candidates to find out as much information as possible before making a hiring decision.   If you have not already done so, take a moment and Google yourself.   Do you like the results?

There are things you can do to help your job search and increase the visibility of your personal brand online. One of them is to create a Google Profile.   Google profile is a tool you can use to help gain better control over what you want people to find when they do a search on your name. You can control how much information you provide such as: your employer, where you went to school, where you live, links to photos, your blog, your resume etc. Your private information is not shared unless you specify it.

The more you complete your profile and add information to, the higher the page ranking you will get when someone does a Google search on your name and keywords.

I do not come up on the first few pages of my Julia Levy search because of two actors:  Julia Levy –Boeken and Raul Julia Levy .  As much as I hate to admit it, I can’t really compete with “celebrity”.   But, I want control over what people see on the web about me, so I created my profile and attached a photo so that the people looking for me can easily find the right Julia Levy. Grab control over your personal brand and create your Google profile today!
