Amidst all the fun of Halloween, it can be easy to lose track of exactly where pets are and what they are doing. Taking a few precautions to ensure their pets' safety will enable dog lovers everywhere to enjoy the holiday without worrying about endangering their pets.
-
Avoid leaving pets out in the yard unsupervised. There will be a lot of people walking around and not all of them will be well behaved. If someone decides to steal pets, throw toxic items into the yard, or simply opens a gate and leaves it ajar because they want to take a shortcut, pets that are safely in the house won't be endangered.
-
Keep an eye on treat bowl locations. When there is a steady stream of children knocking at the door or ringing the doorbell, that bowl gets picked up and put down frequently. If someone leaves it on the floor or on a low table for just a few seconds, a dog can easily end up wolfing down some chocolate or other dangerous snacks.

Consider crating pets or shutting them into a room well away from the front door. This helps them stay calmer if they don't like a lot of commotion and also keeps them from escaping from the house when the door is ajar.
