Anyone who has ever owned a dog or knows some one who does, are aware of how much dogs give in return for simple love and compassion. Dogs can contribute wonders to our physical and emotional well-being. They don't care if you're a CEO or live paycheck to paycheck as most of us have, especially during the past year or so. It's been a tough time for animals as well as people. Many animal shelters are literally bursting at the seams from taking in animals from so many people who have lost their homes. As a result, American Humane has designated the month of October as Adopt-a-Dog-month, namely shelter dogs. I can personally attest to the fact that dogs adopted from shelters make terrific pets. They just seem so happy to have a home that they quickly become attached to their new friend and settle in very quickly.
Keep in mind that adoption should not be taken lightly. It's a tremendous responsibilty. This is not to discourage but to simply inform a prospective adopter enough in order to properly provide for the dog's needs, which are more than just quality food and clean water, but also daily exercise and proper, patient, basic training habits. Dogs are intelligent, and, handled with patience and care, you will have a super pet. Do your homework and arm yourself with accurate information, which you can definitely obtain from visiting American Humane at www.americanhumane.org
