Each and every step in the process of birthing your literature and getting it out to your audience feels invigorating. You are doing something you have never done before. You are hoping and praying that your venture will be a success and that your audience will value your work.
Promoting your book begins to begin months before your title is to hit the market. The idea is to drum up excitement long before its arrival date. If you have read The Self-Publishing Manual by Dan Poynter, I strongly suggest that you make use of the Calendar near the back of the book. It was supremely useful to me.
Specifically I want to draw your attention to preparing your reviewer copy material. Be creative when deciding what items you want to put in your review package. While listening to Dr. Laura’s show one day, I heard speaking about some of the things that have drawn her attention certain packages. Authors send their books to her for review in hopes that they will be featured as the book of the week which means that the book will be offered for sale on her website at a discount and that listeners also have a chance to win a free copy of her book through her show. The things that catch her attention are cute, funny, and certainly relate to the topic of the book.
While preparing my reviewer package material, I chose bookmarks, a pen, a catchy cover letter, and a colorful news release. I have quite the sense of humor and in case you haven’t noticed by now, I allow it to be evident in my writing. Welcome the advice of friends and family members, you never know what great suggestions they will offer you.
