With a name like Annie CreamCheese, one can’t help but to imagine what this charming Georgetown boutique unveils behind its door. Nestled in the heart of D.C. in the city’s trendiest shopping area, AnnieCreamCheese (3279 M St. NW) is a whimsical vintage boutique offering fun and fashion to all those that dare to step into a time machine and blast off to decades from the 30’s to the present.

Annie Lee (co-owner of Annie CreamCheese) is just as cute as her boutique, always stylishly dressed in  designer vintage and energetic and excited about fashion!  After speaking with her about Annie CreamCheese and the essence of vintage, I was inclined to share this “closet-away from home” with my fellow vintage mavens:

1.       One word that describes Annie CreamCheese?
“Stylish!” of course!

2.       There are all sorts of personalities and styles coming in and out of your doors, from young celebrities like Lindsey Lohan to stylish grandmothers shopping fashions from their eras. With that said, who is an Annie CreamCheese diva?

“Our ladies love fashion and can shop both thrift stores and commercial retailers like H&M; they’re into entertainment and Pop culture and love to be inventive and set new trends. They mix looks and incorporate less expensive items with high-end pieces to create their personal style.”

3.       So many people have no clue about vintage! Many often think vintage is another word for “used” which sounds so uninspiring. Annie CreamCheese is the epitome of vintage fashion and style. What does vintage mean to you?

“I love vintage! I was born in 1975 so the look of the 60’s and 70’s have always interested me. I love that you can take a piece that was before your time and put a modern spin on it. Most people shun vintage fashion but I look at it as a constant reinvention—the Madonna of fashion."

"The West coast views vintage as a lifestyle and it is my goal to help the East and Northern areas take these historical pieces and make them their own by putting a spin on it. My style and my store are always fresh.”

4.       Your store(s) is AMAZING!!! It’s cute, it’s fun, it’s girly….it makes me want to shop! Your sales associates are always trendy and the décor is unique. Even your windows catch the eyes of passerby’s. What is it that you want customers to feel when they step foot into your stores?

“That’s exactly what we want you to feel when you shop in our stores. That’s actually why we chose the tag line “Come Play In Our Closet”. We want customers to spend hours in our stores; play, have fun, experiment! Shopping vintage can be hard and often times you have to think outside the box. That’s why I want shoppers to really have the 1 on 1 customer service experience with our fashionably knowledgeable staff. Our sales associates are extremely helpful; customer service is definitely number 1 priority in our books.”

5.       Now, I know this may be hard; but I can’t help but to wonder what your favorite vintage piece of Annie CreamCheese is?

“I love everything Missoni and Pucci. Prints and colors (are always great) never look the same and always new."

"I also love statement jewelry. You can have on the most basic outfit but if you have a piece of big, bulky, heavy jewelry, it will finish the look. And the great thing about it is jewelry doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Everyone should invest in nice chunky jewelry.”

6.        For a stylista on a budget, what can we expect from Annie?

“Waist belts are really big right now and are a simple accessory that can jazz up any outfit. We have waist belts (and scarves) between $12-$35."

"We also have great hats for under $75 in our store. Great hats get you noticed.”

7.       Shopping vintage….3 things to remember?
  • "ALWAYS try things on. People often misjudge pieces and miss out on an awesome find.   Take an hour to take time to try on everything."
  • "Sometimes people tend to get stuck in a decade. Try to branch out and try different styles."
  • "Don’t be scared to make an investment in a statement piece; it takes your wardrobe so much farther."
