Many of you who grew up in the early eighties may remember a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) called "A Boy and His Blob". Well it just so happens that a Wii remake of the old classic is in the works as we speak!

Recent videos released give us an astonishing look on the reincarnation of the game. The main character is now a lot younger from his former adolescent self, and his faithful companion Blob seems to be a bit more youthful as well. The older version of the game revolved around a jellybean system, where you would take a specific flavor of jellybean, say strawberry or cinnamon, and the flavor would have a distinct effect on Blob, and he would transform into a useful item or tool. The videos and visuals give evidence to improvements on its old ancestor. Instead of a limited amount of beans, you seem to have limitless amounts of them, the flavors are now mainly colors, but the confusion of which flavor did what is now obsolete with a neatly designed flavor-to-effect window. Also, it seems we now have an aiming system as well, where in the former game, you would have to guess where the bean would land after you hurled it, you now can make accurate throws with a precise line of aim that shows exactly where the bean will fall.

The boy also has had some improvements and evolutions himself, instead of just whistling to his blob, he now calls out several different shouts including the old whistle. Also, he is able to hop up small steps and obstacles, as well as being able to push small stones. A small fall doesn't seem to effect him as badly anymore as his much weaker adolescent counterpart, but he is still unable to swim by himself it seems. In addition to calling out for Blob and feeding him jellybeans, we're also shown the young boy giving Blob a nice warm hug, which hints to us a small glimpse into their personal relationship of blob and boy (and it's just so adorable!).

The enemies have also changed, whereas in the older game, you avoided fiends of an alien race which were completely white, you now dodge creatures that seem to be of a more sinister shadow race, including a bull-like shadow foe that even charges when it catches sight of the young boy. Other shadow enemies include floating bomb-like balloons that explode on impact, and simple slime shadows that merely slide and squish along back and forth on platforms.

The release date is scheduled for October 2009, and this game looks very promising.
