Aimed for a 2009 holiday release, Assassin’s Creed 2 is said to be coming to the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 this year.

I’m not going to waste time here or mince words, the main character’s name is Ezio Auditore Da Firenze, and the time setting is said to be Venice, Italy in 1486. The visuals provided on the official game website are absolutely fantastic, and even gave a hint that Ezio, unlike his ancestor Altair, can swim.

The game is said to start exactly where the first came to an end, with Desmond helping the current Assassins in the year 2012, against the Templars, and might be doing more than simply sitting on his butt in the Animus unlocking memories, which will also make a return.

Visuals of the game also indicate that Ezio may be able to use polearm weapons this time around, included with his own arsenal of assassin standards like the hidden blade and such. Another interesting possibility is the new skill of assassinating a guard that recognizes you sitting on a bench, and then swapping places with his now dead body. In addition, more abilities like dual hidden blade assassinations and a primitive hang glider also make the list in the E3 Demo.

Now I know everything looks so wonderful at this point, but we must all keep in mind that a game can change at any time during the development process and to not expect the same exact picture twice. Settings may be altered, levels added or removed, weapons changed, voices swapped, anything is possible. However I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting a more rapid heartbeat simply looking at the videos!

Don’t forget to preorder now! You’ll be thankful when you don’t have to deal with sold out sorrow! Believe me, I used to work at a game store, you WANT that preorder!
