Scribblenauts is a game designed for the Nintendo DS and utilizes the player’s imagination to solve puzzles and reach objects called Starites, using an incredible list of items and ideas; you can solve each and every puzzle many different ways.
The player writes or types something down on the touch screen and the item appears in the game world, and the player can utilize that item or object to solve the current puzzle or stage.
For example, you needed to cross a large lake or deep pool of water, you can type in HELICOPTER, and a helicopter will appear on screen ready to use. Now not every word is recognized, such as vulgar words and company names, but the game will provide a list of close matches in its database. You can only have a limited amount of items on screen, and if you have too many, as indicated by the on screen memory bar, you will have to delete those you don’t need by dragging them over to a convenient on screen trash can.
Scribblenauts has a very interesting art style, in which everything has a hand-drawn look and feel to it, giving the game a very childishly innocent appearance, which is actually quite colorful and uplifting.
The game also offers a fun level editor, where players can share their own imaginative levels with friends using a wifi connection.
Scribblenauts looks like a lot of simple silly fun and I look forward to its release which is scheduled for September of 2009.
