Matt Gilroy, former co-captain of the Boston University Terriers, has been chosen as a nominee at the 2009 ESPY Awards. Gilroy is up for Best Male College Athlete. He is coming off of a fairytale final season at BU that saw he and his teammates capture the NCAA National Championship. Gilroy was also the recipient of the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, which is awarded to the top Division 1 player in NCAA hockey.

Gilroy will be up against tough competition in his category. Others vying for the award include Sam Bradford (Oklahoma - football), Blake Griffin (Oklahoma - basketball), Stephen Strasburg (San Diego St. - baseball) and Tim Tebow (Florida - football). The ESPYS will be handed out on July 19 and the live broadcast can be seen on ESPN/ESPNHD beginning at 9:00pm EST.

Gilroy is currently participating in New York Rangers development camp. Yesterday he sat down and answered some questions as part of “Ask a Prospect”. The Q&A can be found here.
